"Thanks for Shopping Market Square"
March Social Media Blitz
Interested in winning a gift card from a Market Square merchant just by shopping at one of the Square's many great venues? Well, for the entire month of March—you will have your chance! The PDP is running a cross-media campaign to thank people for shopping at Market Square merchants and encourage increased shopping. The campaign will run March 1 - March 31 at Market Square establishments. There will be two ways to win each week: 1) raffle, 2) photo contest. Campaign details will be posted to the PDP's Website (just look for the "Market Square" box on the homepage) beginning Monday, Feb. 22.

History Center Welcomes George Washington Back to Pittsburgh

For the first time in nearly 250 years, George Washington is returning to Pittsburgh.

On Friday, Feb. 19, the Senator John Heinz History Center welcomed the dynamic Mount Vernon collection to its venue and the History Center is proud to serve as the premier venue on a nine-city national tour of Discover the Real George Washington: New Views from Mount Vernon. The exhibition is from George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens and it's made possible by the generous support of the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation and presented in Pittsburgh by PPG Industries, Inc.

Visitors will enjoy nearly 100 objects, including full-scale figures of Washington, architectural models, decorative and fine art items, maps, manuscripts, and paintings.

cityLIVE! presents, "Beyond Leed: The Future of Green Buildings"

The Pittsburgh region has been a leader in the “green” building wave. With innovative thinkers in our ranks and technological advances happening in our midst, we are poised to remain in the lead. Will our progress come solely from within the region, or are there advances happening elsewhere that we can learn from? Will there be economic benefits? Is the biggest “green” bang for our buck only for new buildings, or can larger efficiencies be made in older buildings?

Speakers will discuss the latest advances in the green building movement, what can be expected in the future and what can be learned from innovation elsewhere. To register for this dynamic event and to read more about the speakers, click here.

cityLIVE! is a free monthly series of events showcasing the creative, intellectual talent of the city, speaking to its transformation and providing a networking forum for those interested in all things Pittsburgh.

A New, Glass Home for Larrimor's

As Pittsburgh’s premier family-owned clothier, Larrimor's welcomes you to experience their new home at One PNC Plaza (at the corner of 5th and Wood Streets) on Sat., Feb. 27. After 70 years inside Downtown's Union Trust Building, Larrimor's decided it was time for a new space. The new store is completely enclosed in glass and features an open, expansive floor plan.

Larrimor's new location provides easy access to restaurants, parking and the Cultural District.

Larrimor's Downtown hours are 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday - Saturday and the store will be open until 8 p.m. on Thursday. Visit their Website for a map of their new location and and a listing of the most up-to-date spring 2010 trunk shows and events.

PNC Broadway Across American presents, Xanadu

“A winter blues-busting roller disco. it’s one of those rare, clever broadway shows.” - Chicago Tribune

Put a bunch of smash hit songs, Tony® Award nominee Douglas Carter Beane, and the cutest couple in town into a Broadway musical comedy blender, and what do you get? “Heaven on Wheels” says The New York Times. Taking audiences back to 1980 California, this hilarious new musical follows the beautiful Kira, who travels to earth to inspire a struggling young artist named Sonny, as she helps this aspiring painter to find his voice, discover true love and build the world’s first roller disco (not necessarily in that order).

Performances run February 23 - 28 at the Benedum Center. To order tickets, visit www.pgharts.org.

Juried Visual Art Exhibition

Back by popular demand, the Three Rivers Arts Festival has announced a new Juried Visual Art Exhibition. The exhibition will showcase work by artists from the Pittsburgh region. The exhibition will take place at an indoor Cultural District gallery during the 2010 Three Rivers Arts Festival, June 4 - 13, in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Submissions are being accepted from across the spectrum of visual arts. Works will be juried by a panel of Pittsburgh-based artists and curators. Deadline for submissions is March 30, 2010. For details on how to apply, visit www.artsfestival.net or call (412) 471-3591.
