In March 2013, the Zany Umbrella Circus turns ten years old. The circus spent multiple summers performing, devising material and teaching in Amman Jordan, Awassa Ethiopia and Kabul Afghanistan. Their presentation in Market Square marked a retrospective focusing on the many acts of this Pittsburgh-based performing arts group’s career. In addition to multiple performances, they presented a photo and video gallery museum on their school bus. This was an interactive experience featuring artists sharing their global experiences. There was also a teaching series offered, including classes in juggling, plate spinning and mini stilting.
Cake is a visual storybook acted onstage. Bold colors and 1950’s era stylings mark this zany new show. A young child anticipates an exciting birthday surprise, but things do not go as planned.
