The Uptown Combo plays a mix of style - jazz, blues, Texas swing, vintage rock 'n roll - that make a fun gumbo for listening or dancing.
Pianist/singer Jack Bowen thought he was alone in the world until he heard Ray Charles. Besides being the last living member of the Damned Shame Saloon house band, he played extensively with Zoot and Company in clubs across Western Pennsylvania, most of which have since inexplicably burnt to the ground.
Guitarist/singer Chris Jones spent four years on the European folk club and festival circuit, recording for Transatlantic and touring England, Holland and Denmark. He later ran a 5-piece original funk-rock band in the Boston area, playing from Newport to Portland, Maine, before taking a break to raise two sons and get a Phd in French.
Bassist Jim Spears has played in and around Western Pennsylvania since the days when he had hair, working with a wide variety of local and nationally recognized artists, including - The B.E. Taylor Group, Leslie Gore, Little Anthony & The Imperials, The Platters, Sputzy & The Soul Providers, Tommy Roe, Joe Grushecky & the Houserockers, and 8th Street Rox.
