It's a Wonderful Life.

Nearly 5,000 people call Downtown home and many more are joining them. Vacant Upper Floors Loan Fund

One of the PDP's newest housing initiatives, The Vacant Upper Floors Loan Fund, is intended to stimulate the economic revitalization of Downtown Pittsburgh by creating the opportunity for Downtown housing among the buildings with vacant upper floors. These residential developments will create a diverse, lower cost supply of housing that will attract residents to the Downtown. Click here to download a PDF of the Vacant Upper Floors Guidelines.

The Vacant Upper Floors Program provides free Architectural Consulting to business owners through the Community Design Center of Pittsburgh. With this service, building owners can receive architectural consulting regarding building codes and potential layouts for renovating vacant upper floors into a mixed-use with a residential component. The service is valued at $10,000 and the PDP is offering it free of charge. We advise you to take advantage of this program now-by the end of 2008, the free service will no longer be available.

Read the great piece about the PDP's Vacant Upper Floors Program, "Pittsburgh turns empty spaces into housing", from the Residential Architect Magazine, June 3, 2009.
