KidsPlay in the Square is an exciting and educational program available for children and families every Friday morning during the summer, offering stories, crafts and special guests. From the fire department to That Guy with the Birds, you never know who is going to show up!
If Mom or Dad works Downtown, it’s a great chance to have some fun and then share lunch at an outdoor café. Plus, the WISH 99.7 Street Treat Patrol will be on-site to pass out snacks for everyone! The programs are geared towards pre-school and elementary-aged children.

Friday, June 3 – Policemen are our friends!

Meet McGruff, the Crime Dog! Plus, the Bomb Squad truck will be there AND Darren the D.A.R.E. Lion with D.A.R.E. car! Plus, there will be lots of giveaways for everyone! One of our City of Pittsburgh policemen will read a great story to kids. And, parents who wish to have their child fingerprinted may do so today (must have parent on-site to authorize fingerprinting).
PLUS, visit our friends from Connections Academy, who will have some really great activities and fun for all!

Friday, June 10 – Snapology! Where learning is a snap!
Playing with Lego® bricks has never been so much fun! Kids will love building creative models from a huge tub of legos!

Faces by Christina brings a whole new meaning to wearable art! Kids can have their favorite animal or character painted right on their cheeks – and sure to bring a big smile to their faces! Macaroni Kid is dedicated to delivering the scoop on all the family-friendly events and activities happening your communities each week.

Friday, July 1 - Animal Friends / Reading with Rover

Join Animal Friends as they present Reading with Rover? Animal Friends will read a story about dogs and also teach kids about how to approach dogs and animals. They will then do a question and answer session about dogs with the kids. Look for a special appearance by one of their furry friends, too!
Animal Friends' education department houses our Reading With Rover program; a unique, canine-focused approach to literacy! Through this program, Animal Friends pairs young readers with certified, specially-trained dogs for remarkable results. Teachers and parents report that when students practice reading aloud to our dogs, the students show increased fluency and an increased desire to read for pleasure.

Since 1985 Project STAR at The Children’s institute of Pittsburgh has offered a range of permanency planning services for children with special needs and their families. This includes foster care, adoption, and post adoption services. Project STAR will be planting flowers this Friday, July 1st at Kidsplay in Market Square. Friday, July 22 - Meet Otto the Auto – presented by AAA

AAA East Central's most popular program for younger children is - "Otto the Auto!" "Otto" standing three feet tall, is a remote-controlled talking car that engages children in fun and memorable traffic safety exercises. Interacting verbally and through animated reactions, "Otto" teaches the importance of buckling seat belts, sitting in child safety seats, wearing bicycle helmets and looking all ways before crossing the street. For over 7 years, Officer Mike Spagnoletti with the Allegheny County Police department and "Otto" have travelled to schools and community events all throughout the region. Tens of thousands of children and adults have learned how to be safe from Officer Mike and "Otto".
