PDP Statement on Closing of Rosebud Fine Food Market

Pittsburgh, PA — The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership (PDP) learned today that Rosebud Fine Food Market, 100 Seventh Street, Downtown, will close and vacate the building by April 1 due to bankruptcy. The store’s owner, Robin Fernandez, told the PDP he was instructed by the building landlord to vacate because of his inability to pay monthly rent and expenses.

PDP President and CEO, Michael Edwards
“We are very disappointed to hear this news today. We applaud Robin for his efforts to keep the store open as long as he could and recognize the challenges of succeeding as a small, family-owned market in Downtown. He has always been a strong supporter of Downtown and we appreciate the personal risk he took in taking on the project while maintaining other businesses in the Golden Triangle.

As a financial funder of the project, it’s too premature to tell what our strategy and next steps will be. Having a market Downtown to support the growing residential population is very important, but we feel that perhaps lack of marketing and a soft economy hindered Rosebud’s success and are lessons learned going forward.”
