PENNDOT PROVIDES NEW EXIT NUMBERS FOR PARKWAYS EAST, WEST AND NORTH

Pittsburgh, PA – In an effort to help motorists adjust to changes currently underway on I-279 (Parkway North) and I-376 (Parkways East and West) as part of the I-376 re-designation, PennDOT is providing a complete list of new exit numbers correlated with the old exit numbers and names.

Interstate 376 now officially extends from the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Monroeville to the I-79 interchange in Robinson Township. I-279 will remain solely as the Parkway North.

Note: This information is also available on the District 11 homepage.

Signs indicating the new I-376 conversion are being installed on several roadways in the region including the Parkway North (I-279), Parkway East (I-376), I-79, Parkway West (Route 22/30 and Route 60) and other routes that intersect with these roadways. To avoid confusion and help motorists adjust to the new I-376 designation on the Parkway West, the I-279 signs will remain in place alongside the new I-376 markers. Work to resign the Parkway North has been completed and over the next few months, new exit numbers will be posted on the Parkways East and West. The old exit numbers will be posted alongside the new numbers for a short period of time to allow motorists time to adjust.

Only I-279 from the Fort Pitt Tunnel to I-79 has been converted to I-376 at this time. The conversion of the Parkway West from I-279 to I-376 is a necessary component of a larger project that will re-designate US Route 22/30 and Route 60 through Allegheny and Route 60 through Beaver, Lawrence and Mercer counties to I-376.

PennDOT has been planning this re-designation for several years and has made the formal re-designation request to the Federal Highway Administration. PennDOT anticipates receiving the approval later this year. Systematic improvements are underway on Route 22/30 and Route 60 through Allegheny and Beaver counties to improve interchanges in anticipation of the re-designation. Additional projects will begin later this summer in Lawrence and Mercer counties.

As these changes occur this summer and fall, motorists are advised to be prepared for changing signs and new exit numbers. PennDOT will continue to keep the traveling public informed as the changes progress.

The sign work is included in $24.7 million project currently underway on the Parkway East (I-376). The prime contractors for the project are the Trumbull Corporation of West Mifflin in a joint venture with Lindy Paving Inc. of New Castle.
