Pittsburgh Business Times
That Pittsburgh has worked to shed its smokestack and soot-filled reputation for a greener Steel City is not new to folks around here, but the results of a survey of 43 cities has at least one of our neighbors to the west looking at Pittsburgh as an example to emulate.
Pittsburgh ranked eighth in the “Green City Index” created by the Cincinnati Business Courier, a sister publication of the Business Times. The index looked at such variables as commuting habits of residents, travel time and fuel use, and air and water quality. The list was topped by West Coast cities with the top spot going to the Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton, Oregon/Washington metropolitan statistical area.
