Post-Gazette: City on the rise: Downtown shows off well in a new report
The uncertainty over Pittsburgh's pension obligations and the fight to avoid a state takeover have generated gloomy headlines of late, but they don't tell the whole story of what's happening in the city.
The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership issued a report Monday about life and commerce in the Golden Triangle, the north and south shores, the near-Strip District and Uptown that tells a tale of dynamic change and opportunity. (To read the report, go to www.downtownpittsburgh.com.)
Where once the success of Downtown was measured by the number of department stores it could attract and retain, the criterion has shifted in recent years. Fortunately, it's not about tax incentives for Lazarus or what it would take to lure a Nordstrom to Fifth and Forbes anymore.
