Barb Savino needed a change of pace.
Burned out in a desk job, Savino, 44, of Carrick liked the idea of walking around Downtown helping people.
"I took a pay cut to come here. I just really like this type of job," said Savino, employed as a safety ambassador for three months in a program offered by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership.
The nine safety ambassadors work seven days a week, covering the 90-square-block area that makes up the Golden Triangle. From January to June, they walked more than 7,200 miles and bicycled more than 575 miles, the Downtown coalition said.
They act "as another pair of eyes and ears" for the police, Deputy Chief Paul Donaldson said.
