Tribune-Review: Center of Downtown shifts away from Macy's

Macy's is creating a more compact Downtown store but doesn't plan to spend money on new decor or racks for the smaller space.
Some view the "right-sizing" from nine to six floors of retail space, plus a mezzanine arcade, as a positive. "We are excited they're staying Downtown," Jeremy Waldrup, new chief executive of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, said Wednesday.
Others are worried. The department store hasn't changed much since long before it switched from the Kaufmann's name in September 2006. It looks dated, said Paige Beal, marketing professor at Point Park University, and for customers seeking the latest fashions, that's not good.
