 As a lawyer working Downtown, John Burns usually tries to avoid the crowds that gather for Pittsburgh''s first big event of the Christmas season. This year, he and his extended family reveled in it.

"I usually sprint out of town on Light Up Night," said Burns of Moon, pushing 3-year-old daughter Grace in a stroller through Macy''s Friday evening. But his mother-in-law was visiting from Weirton, W.Va., and a niece was performing with a school group at PPG Place Plaza.

It all turned out to be more fun than Burns remembered from his last Light Up Night, about four years ago.
