Whenever the Great Recession loosens its grip, the "new normal" economy won't reignite the go-go years, say experts. But the Pittsburgh-area economy will probably rebound better than in many other markets.
Housing prices didn't over-inflate here like they did elsewhere, say economists, so the climb back won't be as steep a challenge. Plus, the region's economy has diversified toward health care, education and technology since past recessions, which had socked Pittsburgh's heavy manufacturing base more than it did in most markets.
