Project Pop Up: Downtown is a new program of Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, in conjunction with the Urban Redevelopment Authority, Department of City Planning and Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership.
“We’ve made it a priority to bring Downtown back to life,” says Mayor Luke Ravenstahl. “New office tenants, residential properties, and the renovated Market Square is part of that vision. For retail, Project Pop Up Pittsburgh: Downtown is a great tool to inject life and energy into the Downtown business district."
Over 90 artists, entrepreneurs, and non-profits submitted proposals to activate Downtown storefronts. Finalists were invited to “pop” into Downtown for limited engagements. These finalists will receive grants with which they will occupy currently vacant stores in Downtown for the next year.
Projects began launching as part of the 51st Duquesne Light Light Up Night and all projects will be fully activated for our Project Pop Up: Downtown event on March 30th, 2012. Keep an eye on the website for more information.
