Downtown Resident Hotline

Post Office Information

As you walk down the streets of Downtown Pittsburgh, you may notice the mailbox you usually pass isn’t there. Starting today, mailboxes around the area will be removed in preparation for the Pittsburgh G-20 Summit. If you have mail that needs to be sent out, there are three Post Offices’ downtown where you can drop it off.

336 Fourth Ave., Floor 1B
412-642-1151

700 Grant St.
421-642-0769

625 Stanwix St., Suite 104
412-642-2158

Post Offices have not been told if they are to remain open on the days of the summit; however, removed mailboxes will be replaced immediately after the summit. As of now, carriers are told to still deliver mail on the summit days so long as they have access to your building or otherwise instructed. If they do not have access to your building or were not instructed, they will hold your mail until they are able to deliver it. Carriers are also instructed to pick up outgoing mail from either your deposit box or your receptionist desk when they come to deliver your mail.

Resident Update: A Message from the PDP - Sept. 16, 2009

With the release of the City’s Transportation Plan, many unanswered questions have now been answered. We’re pleased the City and the Secret Service has made arrangements so that Downtown residents will have access to their vehicles and will be able to come in and out of town.

 Here are the details:

Vehicles of Downtown Residents

· Residents must present their driver’s license which must indicate their Downtown address. They do not need to provide vehicle registration. If you do not have a Downtown address, please contact the Department of Public Safety and arrangements will be made.

· Motorcycle riders will have the same requirements as cars.

· Guests of residents will not be permitted to drive their vehicle across the entry points.

· If you are a Downtown resident located within the Secret Service’s security perimeter, you will be unable to access parking within the area. Pittsburgh Police will work with residents to find alternate Downtown parking. Contact resource

Also, there are no access restrictions on taxis or Zipcars, so those are two more options for you should you need to leave your home during the Summit next Thursday or Friday. There will be three designated taxi stands: Liberty Avenue at Commonwealth Plaza, Wood Street from Forbes Avenue to Oliver Plaza and 600 Liberty Avenue. To reserve a Zipcar, go to www.zipcar.com.

Bicycles will be treated like pedestrians and will be able to move freely throughout Downtown. Riders will be subject to a magnetometer if they seek to enter the Secret Service security perimeter, however.

No doubt, these are inconveniences, but they are necessary to ensure Downtown remains safe during this event. Just think, after next week, we can all sit back and reflect on the fact that we were a part of Pittsburgh’s history!
Residential properties located inside the perimeter have already been contacted and are working directly with City officials and the Secret Service to determine credentialing needs. See map for perimeter details. Credentialing for those affected residents is simply a convenience that will make it easier to move to and from their street within the restricted area. Please note, however, that all individuals seeking to enter the restricted area may do so through a pedestrian checkpoint – an ID will be required and you may be subjected to a magnetometer. Entry procedures into your building will not change.

Our Downtown resident hotline is available if you have any additional questions or concerns about the upcoming Summit. Please call 412-325-0159 and someone will get back to you in 24-48 hours. More details below.

Downtown Resident Information Line

Residents – and anyone who lives, works, studies or has to be Downtown – should consider how close their destinations are to the known venue sites. Call ahead to see if offices where you have appointments will be open. Better yet, reschedule Downtown appointments for a week before or after the summit. Carry ID, and understand that some buildings near the venue sites might have restrictions on who can enter.

If you rely on Port Authority buses or the T, sign up at www.portauthority.org for e-mail alerts about route changes.

Downtown residents who wish to speak with someone about their concerns can call the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership’s Summit information line at 412-325-0159

*We encourage Downtown residents to speak directly with their building manager for additional information.

PLEASE NOTE - at this time, we can ONLY return calls from Downtown residents. You must include the building name and address of your Downtown residence in your message. We may call your property manager to verify your resident status. Also, be sure to include the following information when leaving a voicemail:

- Full Name
- Phone Number
- Building name and address
- G20 related question/concern

A PDP staff member will return your call within 24-48 hours.

Thank you for your cooperation!
