Keeping Downtown clean and vibrant is one of the PDP's key initiatives. In July, the PDP partnered with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Point Park University, U.S. Steel Tower and BNY Mellon, to purchase, brand and install 20 cigarette urns in key locations Downtown. The urns attach to the existing garbage cans and are easy to empty and maintain. With the great success of the pilot program (the Clean Team has been swamped with requests from merchants to place the urns in their area), 20 more cigarette urns have been purchased and will be installed in time for the G-20 Pittsburgh Summit.
Also, three additional Clean Team Ambassadors have been hired to assist with clean-up efforts for an eight-week period to enhance PDP's cleaning of Downtown for the G-20 Pittsburgh Summit. The Ambassadors will focus their work near the Convention Center and will provide additional sidewalk pressure washing, graffiti removal, filling tree grates, painting street fixtures and encouraging repair or private property.
It is likely that many Downtown parking facilities will be inconvenienced or closed during the week of the Pittsburgh Summit. With that in mind, we've decided to suspend our Parking Reservation Program for the week of September 21 - 25. As we receive additional information, we'll be posting it to our Pittsburgh Summit web pages and distributing it in our weekly e-newsletter.
The PDP secured funding to activate 32 vacant storefronts Downtown to showcase the vibrancy of our city now and throughout the G-20 Pittsburgh Summit.
The majority of the window coverings are along pathways to the Convention Center. The first surface applications will display themes and graphics that tell the Pittsburgh story and will be consistent with other elements designed in anticipation for the G-20 Pittsburgh Summit. As part of the PDP's ongoing retail strategy, the banners were designed to have a long shelf life, providing a long-term solution for vacant storefronts Downtown. *This project was a collaboration between the PDP, URA, City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Allegheny Conference on Community Development (G-20 Partnership) and FSC Marketing Communications.
