A Message from the PDP: Sept. 9, 2009

First Phase of Security Plans Released
On Sept. 8, the Secret Service announced its first phase of security restrictions for the upcoming Pittsburgh Summit 2009 on Sept. 24 and 25.

The restricted zone will be put in place starting at 8 p.m. on Sept. 23 and will conclude at 8 p.m. on Sept. 25. A map, which includes details on the restricted pedestrian access area, the restricted vehicle area and pedestrian access points, can be found here.  The checkpoints for pedestrians will be at 9th Street and Penn Avenue and 10th Street and Liberty Avenue. Anyone seeking to enter the zone through the checkpoints will be screened using magnetometers, however credentials are not required. This means patrons will be able to access businesses and restaurants inside the security perimeter without credentials. However, it is a good idea for anyone in Downtown to carry their photo identification (such as a driver’s license) at all times. If you work Downtown, carry a business card as well.
